Chlamydia pneumoniae is one of three types of chlamydia infection beside chlamydia trachomatis and psitacci. Most of us may only know chlamydia trachomatis which is caused sexually disease. In fact, there are other two named chlamydia penumoniae and chlamydia psitacci. Chlamydia pneumoniae is the one that causes respiratory illness. The spreading is similar with other kind of respiratory disease.
If chlamydia trachomatis spread through unsafe sexual relationship or having multiple partner then pneumoniae infected other person by direct coughs or sneezes. Other caused of spreading is by indirect germ on hand when passed it into other person. This type of chlamydia mostly attacking school aged children around 5 up to 15 years old.
Sign and symptom
Pneumoniae usually begin with sore throat that followed by cough around 1 week or more. The cough itself will last for about 2 up to 6 weeks. Since the sign similar with common flu then many people get missunderstand about this disease with common influenza or bronchitis. The condition is vary among each patient which is some may only have mild symptom while the other have the severe one. When you get pneumoniae, you will have prolonged cough, bronchitis, laryngitis, sinusitis and ear infection.

Usually chlamydia pneumoniae will be diagnose after pediatrician examination after doing some physical test. If the test still not enough then blood test will be held to make sure whether there is a presence of the pneumoniae bacteria or not. Swab test is common to do to examine and the sample will be taken into special laboratories to do evaluation. Swab test itself will be done through taking the culture sample from nose or throat.
Chlamydia pneumoniae treatment
The infection in your respiratory track may need sometime to get healed. However, your pediatrician may provide some antibiotic such as erythromycin and tetracycline. Those type of antibiotic is helpful to cleaning the pneumonia infection and boost the healing phase.

In fact, chlamydia pneumoniae caused by bacterial infection through sneezing, coughing or touch the infected hand indirectly. The only way to prevent it is teaching about hygiene habit to your children. For example, you can ask them to always washing their hand frequently. By doing simple thing like this, you can make children more aware about chlamydia pneumoniae.
